Description
This was my late Mother's most prized
Steiff. It's not a bear or other Steiff
animal. It's a Tree House.
A letter was found
inside the tree house from a fellow Steiff Collector
that was sent to my mother in 2003 telling her
what the tree house was.
The letter told my mother what it was, with a copy of the page from the
book "Steiff Bears and other Playthings by Dee Hockenberry, a Schiffer
book for Collectors. Published in 2000. It was on page 250.
I have since found out
it was offered in the FAO Schwartz Toy catalogs in the 1950's.
The Tree house is 26" tall and at the
base is 19". Putting a taped measure around it it's
43" around. It has simulated wood bark exterior and 3 windows
with curtains your little Steiff friends can look out of, one is a
Balcony. It has a Front door that opens for a Steiff friend to peek out
of and perches that looks like tree limbs that have been cut off for
more Steiff friends it sit on.
On the back is a door that opens to reveal 3 different levels and a
Fireman's pole for the Steiff's to hang on to and slide down when they
want to play.
Tree House is in Great condition! There
are a couple of age issues. Front and Back doors don’t close as tightly
as I think they should and the top has a couple of slight separations.
That is to be expected with 50 year old real Wood construction. Also one
window and the balcony have staples below the opening. Don't know if
they are original but I left them.
Included with the tree house is all the
animals pictured. Most I believe are Steiff's but a few aren’t.
None have the ear buttons but a couple have a Steiff tag or chest tag.
In addition to the animals, I will
include the letter my mother received telling her what she had.
