dark red hard-covered book, with gold lettering, was published by The American
Society for Metals,
©1935. Revised 1937. This 157 page book is from, "A Series of Five
Educational Lectures on the Principles of the Heat Treatment of Steels Presented to the
Members of the ASM during the 17th National Metal Congress and Exposition, Chicago, Ill.,
Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, 1935". The Author is: M.A. Grossman, Director of Research,
Carnegie-Ill., Steel Corp., Chicago. This book extensively delves into its subject
throughout the 10-plus chapters. Included are: many (b & w) Photographs, References,
Graphs, Charts, Figures, and Tables, plus the Appendix that covers,
"Commercial Heat Treating Operations". Also included with this book is a
separate chart approx. 24" x 15" that is on, "The Process and
Result of Austenite Transformation at Constant Temperature - ©1935. It is in perfect
condition, except for the top & side edge of the pages appear slightly darkened from
sitting on a bookshelf for 65 years. On the inside of the front cover is the handwritten
name of the original owner- "Henry S. Young, Jr. 39", and on the
first page, written in the upper right corner, "1.50". On the inside of the back
cover is handwritten, "Sodium (?) Phosphates", and on several of the inside
pages there are some notations written along the sides of those pages in pencil from the
original owner.
